3 Pieces In The YONKERS THRU THE LENS Gallery Show, BDAC

Last Saturday was the opening reception for Blue Door Arts Center’s newest exhibit – “Yonkers Through The Lens – A Photographic Perspective” Three of my pieces were chosen for this group gallery show. It was a really nice opening getting to meet the other photographers, art enthusiasts and having support from family and friends.

Yonkers Thru The Lens Gallery Opening

I haven’t applied to any gallery shows since before the pandemic so it was extra special being in person and having 2 other friends with work in the show.

Want to see what was selected? Here ya go…

In my previous post I gave you some behind the scenes on this one – Transformation. This was the largest one I had in the show and the only one in color.

This next one is called Hanging Out.

birds on yonkers riverfront

My husband and I went to the Yonkers Riverfront one weekend to walk around. We like to go for walks in different locations and I was mesmerized by all the birds that were literally lined up and just hanging out. You couldn’t tell from my photographs how expansive it was so I decided to zoom in and while I didn’t get all of them in this shot it still captures the essence of what I saw.

This last one is called Take A Seat.

Take A Seat, Ridge Hill

I photographed it one winter at the outdoor mall in Yonkers called Ridge Hill. I was drawn to the round shapes of the outdoor seating and the contrast of the snow to the wet cement sidewalk.

These 2 aren’t what you’d typically see from me and my style but it was definitely fun to break out of the norm and experiment. I’ve always loved black and white photography and when I shot these 2 I knew they were meant for black and white.

If you’re interested in any of these pieces and/or would like to see the other work in the show, you can either visit the gallery in person or check it out online here.
