February Creativity Time

I missed posting my creativity time for February so I thought I’d do a recap for the month and add a few other things in as well. It’s a shorter month and I was busy with work projects and my girls were off for a week for a Winter Break from school so this is as much as I could fit in. Again, I’m not going to focus on quantity but as long as I do something creative, to me it’s a win.

Photography

I’m still interested in florals but for now I have to rely on store bought flowers rather than sprawling gardens to get my fix. I managed to also get one great sunset in!

Black and white photography has always been a favorite of mine but only certain images work well in black and white (at least for me). I’m exploring different light sources (even the fridge light) and going for a dramatic high contrast look.

Drawing

Florals carry over to my drawings as well. I mix in pen, markers and colored pencils. I have more control with colored pencils but it takes longer so if I need a quick drawing fix I go for the markers.

Cooking

I guess I was pretty boring in February as far as cooking goes because I think I only made one new recipe! I love a Spanish restaurant in Manhattan called Sevilla – it’s down in the west village. I love their garlic soup so that’s what I attempted to make. I think it was too garlicky for the rest of my family but I loved it and it was really easy to make.

I chopped up a ton of garlic – maybe a whole head, slowly sauteed it in olive oil. Cubed up a day old baguette and tossed it with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, pepper and a lot of paprika and toasted it in the oven. I then mixed it in with the garlic and olive oil and added chicken stock and let it simmer for awhile. I used parsley for garnish and to add some freshness to the soup.

Out & About

While my girls were on break we did some day activities. One day we went into the city and I took them to see The Oculus and Freedom Memorial park. We didn’t have enough time to go into Freedom Tower – they got distracted by Forever21!

My older daughter had been wanting to go back to The Sugar Factory for so long. Ever since she went to a birthday party a few years ago so we made that part of the day’s adventure. They have these crazy sugary drinks as well as real food like burgers, salads, etc. My younger daughter and I are more conscious about what we eat but we gave the blue drink a taste. That was ENOUGH for us! I won’t go on a rant here about excess sugar – we’ll discuss that another time but let me tell you – my daughter felt so sick the next day and she never wants to go back there again. Lesson learned – sometimes the hard way! 🙂

This & That

We had 2 birthday celebrations this month! Our bunnies Daisy and Bun Bun! Daisy turned 1 and Bun Bun turned 2. The girls wanted to have real parties for each of them so they got cake, invited my sis, nephews and mom and we all sang happy birthday. The bunnies got carrots and apples and were very happy!
